Friday Book Talk

18693598
All of my excerpts for this week are from The Art of Arranging Flowers by Lynne Branard.

This book. I just finished it this morning and I will write a full review but let me just say that this book is one of the most beautifully written pieces of literature I have read in a good long while. Branard has a lovely writing style and every character is rich and you can't help but just fall in love with them.

Rose City Reader hosts this meme asking you to "share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author's name."

"Daisy was not crazy. At least not like they said. She wasn't unstable or paranoid. She wasn't dissociative or delusional, nor did she ever display homicidal tendencies. She didn't impose some means of self-mutilation or harbor a borderline personality. She did not require restraints or group therapy and she never intended harm. She took her meds and she was fine. She was not crazy. The day she died, that cold gray day when I withdrew into myself, that day I cleaned the house from top to bottom, wiped down every wall, emptied every trash can and discarded most of my clothes, that day when I scrubbed and mopped and threw away the things of no matter, closed the curtains in the front room, unplugged all the clocks and disconnected my phone, put on my grandmother's only black suit, changed the sheets, and lay down on the bed, I was the one who was crazy."

Freda's Voice hosts this fun meme. Turn to page 56 or 56% on ereader and post a non-spoiler sentence or two.

"That fragrance takes me back to one of the most important moments of my life and reminds me of someone who made me feel good about myself." I ordered ten bunches of them as soon as I was discharged. Evelyn is a very good nurse and she deserves to feel special."

or this one:

Call Cooper and see if he's left the warehouse yet. If he hasn't, tell him to bring me a few dozen stems of lily of the valley when he comes in the morning." I know they help with cardiac issues. "I'll add them to the pink and yellow peonies I ordered. That'll lift her spirits."

Book Blogger Hop

Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer poses a weekly question that you can answer.
Q: When you views someone's profile, what information do you like to see?
I usually look at people's profiles when I am trying to contact them privately so I always appreciate if they have their email in their profile, unless it is on a site where private messaging is allowed . Beyond that, I don't think I've ever thought about it. I certainly am not a believer of a lot of personal information being available so I don't look for that sort of information.

Those opening sentences about "crazy" are pretty powerful. Didn't know about the cardiac remedy either. I want to read this one. I happened to read about it on another blog for Friday 56.

Interesting. Not what I expected from the title, but a great excerpt. And I love the cover!

Your Book Beginning Book has such a gorgeous cover. I am not surprised that it is a beautifully written book.

THANKS for sharing.

Re the Book Blogger Hop:

I like to see a link to their blog, a first name, and an e-mail.

I don't like to have to "hunt" for their blog or find out what their first name is. I do like to call folks by their names and not their blog's name. :)

Happy Hopping!!

Beautiful cover! I also don't look for too much information of peoples profiles and I definitely don't put too much on my own.
